Weekly Principal’s Reminders 3.4.22

Hello Sanderlin Sea Turtle Learning Community,

I hope everyone had a great week. We were very busy around campus as we hosted the National Magnet Schools of America Team in their tour of our campus. Sanderlin has been nominated by the Magnet Schools of America as the top magnet school in the country. We are in competition with several other schools and we will find out if we have won this prestigious honor on April 21st. I am very excited for our James B. Sanderlin IB World school community for earning this recognition. This has been a wonderful opportunity to share and spotlight the amazing things happening at Sanderlin!

My reminders for the week include:

1) I want to thank all families that donated to our fundraiser. We successfully raised over $55,000 that will be used to directly fund student programs and incentives. I can’t thank our families enough for the hard work they put into helping us collect these donations. On Thursday, March 10th we will get to celebrate this amazing fundraiser with the students at our Day of Awesomeness. Students will get to play games, jump in bounce houses, and just have some fun with each other. Please make sure you send your child to school with an extra pair of socks on Thursday as they will need socks to run around in the back field and jump in the bounce houses. Their socks will get very dirty doing this so we want them to have a change of socks with them for after the event.

2) The 6th Grade Discovery (orientation) night is Thursday, March 10th from 6:00 -7:00. This event is for all incoming 6th graders for the 2022-2023 school year to learn more about middle school. Parents and students should plan to attend this event.

3) We continue to see a high number of late students on a daily basis. The magnet expectation is that students are in their seats ready to learn at 8:55AM. If your child is walking in the door to campus at 8:55, he or she is late. By the time they get to their classroom, they are later. If your child is coming into the front office at or after the second bell, you or another adult MUST accompany him or her to sign in. Please try to get your child to school by the first bell at 8:50AM so there is time for him or her to get to class by the second bell. Don’t forget, our Timely Turtles program gives weekly incentive to students who are on time each and every day for school.

Additionally, doctor or dental appointments will ONLY be excused with a note from the doctor or dentist, not a parent note. Because attendance is so important, we ask that you not keep your child out all day for a short-time appointment.

4) Don’t forget that we do not accept outside lunch or food for students during the school day. If students have lunch sent to the school it will be refused. The only exception to this rule is if Level 2 parents are coming to eat lunch with their child on Fridays.

March 14th – 18th is Spring Break. I hope everyone enjoys their week off. Students will return to school on March 22nd. This will be my last Principal’s message until right before we return from break. I hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend.

Sincerely,

Carrie A. Cormier

Principal, Sanderlin K-8 IB World School
