Hello Sanderlin Sea Turtle Learning Community,
I hope everyone had a peaceful week celebrating the International Day of Peace with us throughout our week. Each classroom created symbols of Peace to put on their doors and it was a wonderful visual image of how our school community is working together to promote Peace and our contribution to being positive and peaceful global citizens.
At this point, families should have received progress reports or mid-terms to review with your child. We are working very hard to communicate your child’s progress with you particularly as we get closer to the end of the quarter.
This next week we turn our attention to a Starts with Hello week. Starts with Hello was started to address some of the issues that our young children are feeling about bullying, feeling left out, alone or invisible. Social isolation is a growing epidemic in the United States and within our schools. Young people who are isolated can become victims of bullying, violence, and/or depression. As a result, many pull further away from society, struggle with learning and social development and/or choose to hurt themselves or others. Start with Hello teaches students the skills they need to reach out to and include those who may be dealing with chronic social isolation and create a culture of inclusion and connectedness within their school or youth organization. Each day throughout the week next week students will be encouraged to promote words of kindness and use the time to find different people to “Start with Hello” with. Your child will have a passport to use throughout the week to track how they are participating in these events. We strongly encourage you to speak with your child about their passport and the activities we are doing to promote inclusion and happiness for all students at Sanderlin.
Coming up is Our Great American Teach-In Event on Wednesday November 17th We invite parents and members of our community to share information with students about their career, hobby, or to organize an activity. You can choose to present during one class period, multiple classes or pre-record a video presentation for classes to view. If you are interested in speaking to our students, please register here.
Our students look forward to this event each school year. Please forward this information to friends and family. If you have any questions, please contact Brenna Arch, our Family and Community Liaison atarchb@pcsb.org
A continued reminder that there should be NO VEHICLE TRAFFIC in the front of the school between the hours of 8:25-8:55AM and 2:30-3:30PM. These times are for buses only. This is a district rule for the safety of all students and staff. ALL student drop-off and pick-up should be done on the east side of the school through car line. If you need to come into the office, please park your car in the lot on the east side of the school and walk around to the front of the school. If you have someone else dropping off or picking up your child, please be sure that they are aware of these procedures.
Another friendly reminder: if you are calling or emailing an absence for your child, please provide a reason. Without a reason, your child will automatically be marked unexcused. We appreciate you help in making sure our students are correctly coded for attendance.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Carrie A. Cormier
